Simple steps may improve your indoor air quality, with the first step becoming aware of possible issues and understanding what needs to be improved.
Excessive humidity levels can cause mold growth and lead to asthma and allergies. Good indoor ventilation is therefore especially crucial when taking a shower, drying of clothes and /or cooking. Dry air can also be problematic, particularly during the wintertime. This can result in home damages, such as creaking or cracking of wooden floors and furniture. Due to new construction techniques, the relative indoor humidity often drops below the recommended values in new houses, this partly being due to good insulation. A humidifier / dehumidifier, for example, can be a solution to achieve a recommended humidity level in the home. The recommended level of humidity: 30-60%. Max Accuracy: Relative humidity sensor ±2.0% RH
Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOC) are airborne chemicals & toxins emitted from everyday items such as paint, furniture, and cleaning products. They can be harmful at a high concentration, causing irritations in eyes, nose, and throat. Depending on the level and length of exposure TVOCs can also cause more serious health damage to liver and kidneys. Mill Sense measures the following TVOC’s: Alcohols, Aldehydes, Ketones, Organic Acids, Amines, Aliphatic and Aromatic Hydrocarbons. Recommended TVOC level: < 220 ppb. An air purifier, for example, will be able to ensure that the TVOC level is within the recommended level.
A healthy indoor climate begins with temperature consistency. Indoor temperature affects health (such as illness prevention / respiratory infections), performance and general comfort level. It is not recommended to turn indoor heating completely off in rooms not being used either, as in combination with humidity can result in mold growth. Connect Mill Sense to Mill WiFi heaters for more precise temperature control, for example. Stable, comfortable temperatures can be personalized and adjusted to daily routines. Recommended temperature: 18-25°C. Max Accuracy: Temperature sensor ±0.15°C
eCO2 refers to the estimated concentration level of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the air. Moderate to high levels of CO2 can cause headaches and fatigue, and higher concentrations can produce nausea, dizziness, and vomiting. The eCO2 measurement is calculated from the VOC measurement – if there are substantial concentrations of VOCs present, a eCO2 reading will be higher than the actual CO2 level. Good ventilation and regular ventilation are important to maintain a recommended eCO2 level. Recommended eCO2 level: <1200 ppm.
It is cold in the room, temperature is below 18°C.
Indoor air quality is good and the sensor values are within recommended level.
Indoor air quality is approaching poor/moderate levels. Take simple steps such as opening windows to bring fresh air inside.
One or more of the sensor values are above the recommended level. Actions should be taken to either increase ventilation, dehumidifying or humidifying, depending on what levels needs to be addressed.
